In October 2022, the UBC Department of Orthopaedics welcomed two new administrative team members to the Department! We’re pleased to introduce you to our new Administrative Coordinator, Patryk Krolikowski, and our new Education Manager, Karen Du Plessis.
Trainee Spotlight – Luke Johnson
Luke Johnson is a PhD candidate with the UBC Department of Orthopaedics at the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility. Luke’s love of engineering and biomechanics led him to pursue graduate research in patients who have residual hip deformity from Perthes’ disease.
Faculty Spotlight – Babak Shadgan
Dr. Babak Shadgan is a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) Scholar, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia (UBC), a faculty member at the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering, and a principal investigator at the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), where he is directing the Clinical Biophotonics Laboratory.

Meet Dr. Adrian Huang – Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Orthopaedics and an Orthopaedic Surgeon at St. Paul’s Hospital.
Faculty Spotlight – Tym Frank
Meet Dr. Tym Frank! Dr. Frank is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Department of Orthopaedics and an Orthopaedic Upper Limb Surgeon at Burnaby Hospital. Dr. Frank completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at UBC in 2016 and went on to complete two clinical fellowships: the first focusing on upper limb arthroscopy and reconstruction and the second on upper limb reconstruction and trauma.
