Meet our new UBC Department of Orthopaedics Admin Team Members!

In October 2022, the UBC Department of Orthopaedics welcomed two new administrative team members to the Department! We’re pleased to introduce you to our new Administrative Coordinator, Patryk Krolikowski, and our new Education Manager, Karen Du Plessis.

Meet our new Administrative Coordinator, Patryk Krolikowski!

What is your role on the UBC Department of Orthopaedics Administrative Team?

As an Admin Coordinator, I’m responsible for matters related to Finance, HR, and Facilities. I’ll also be handling a diverse variety of projects.

What do you enjoy most about working in the Department?

I guess the three things I’m excited about are working with our great team, being involved in initiatives that make a difference for patients and improve the quality of Canadian healthcare, and the amazing view from our office windows!

Can you share something special you’ve learned about the world of Orthopaedics?

I recently learned that we are about to launch our new Orthopaedics Strategic Plan! I am very excited about this plan and I think it will be a great guiding tool for all our upcoming endeavors.

What’s one interesting fact about you that people may not know?

I moved from Warsaw to Montreal and went to a French high school. It was a great experience that helped me become comfortable with throwing myself into new environments and learning things on the fly!

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I love playing videogames, writing, traveling, and going on adventures with my lovely wife and daughter.

KAREN DU PLESSIS
Education Manager

Meet our new Education Manager, Karen Du Plessis!

What is your role on the UBC Department of Orthopaedics Administrative Team?

As Education Programs Manager, I work with the amazing education team to grow and develop our Residency, Fellowship, and Undergraduate Programs in order to establish them as the gold standard for Orthopaedics education in the world.

What do you enjoy most about working in the Department?

My favorite thing about working in the Orthopaedics Department is the people! It’s clear that the Department has excellent people, striving to ensure ‘mobility for all’. I am very excited to be part of this, and I also really appreciate and enjoy the enthusiasm and dedication in the Department to growth and development!

What’s one interesting fact about you that people may not know?

While I love dogs and other animals, I have a special place in my heart for rats (the domesticated kind!). I’ve had several pet rats over the years (named after a variety of video game characters and cricket players…), and they are amazing, loving and intelligent creatures.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I love making food and painting (not at the same time, of course!). I’m always looking for new and exciting recipes to try out, and I love experimenting with different kinds of cooking. When I am not working, painting or in the kitchen, you can find me in front of my easel creating colorful, abstract pieces or playing video games.
