Dr. Babak Shadgan is a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) Scholar, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia (UBC), a faculty member at the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering, and a principal investigator at the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), where he is directing the Clinical Biophotonics Laboratory.

Faculty Spotlight – Tym Frank

Meet Dr. Tym Frank! Dr. Frank is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Department of Orthopaedics and an Orthopaedic Upper Limb Surgeon at Burnaby Hospital. Dr. Frank completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at UBC in 2016 and went on to complete two clinical fellowships: the first focusing on upper limb arthroscopy and reconstruction and the second on upper limb reconstruction and trauma.

Faculty Spotlight – Emily Schaeffer

Meet Dr. Emily Schaeffer! She is a Research Associate with the UBC Department of Orthopaedics and Research Director for Pediatric Orthopaedics at BC Children’s Hospital. Her research focuses on pediatric orthopaedic hip conditions and musculoskeletal trauma. She currently runs the Hippy Global Registry Program, which includes registries on developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).

Meet Dr. David Wilson! He is a professor with the UBC Department of Orthopaedics and an orthopaedic engineering researcher at the Robert H.N. Ho Research Centre. He’d like to see his research set the foundations for interventions that lead to joints that are pain-free and functional longer.
