New Orthopaedic Academic Excellence Award funds innovative research led by four early-career researchers
We are delighted to announce the first recipients of the Orthopaedic Academic Excellence Award (Ortho-AEA): Drs. Aresh Sepehri, Parth Lodhia, David Stockton, and Michael Neufeld. Ortho-AEA aims to foster a culture of academic scholarship in UBC Orthopaedics by developing faculty talent.

Dr. Babak Shadgan Appointed as a Medical Director in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games!
Dr. Babak Shadgan, Assistant Professor with the UBC Department of Orthopaedics, is heading to France to participate in his sixth consecutive Olympic Games, where he will be serving as the Medical Director of Wrestling Competitions at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games!

UBC GO Spotlight – Piotr Blachut
In our next spotlight, we delve into the work of UBC Clinical Professor Emeritus and orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Piotr Blachut, who pioneered the Uganda Sustainable Trauma Orthopaedics Program (USTOP), addressing femur fractures and educating local clinicians amidst challenges like limited resources and exposure to foreign pathogens, ultimately benefiting both Ugandan and Canadian surgical communities.
