Annika Ackerman

Medical School: University of British Columbia

“Originally from the Kootenays and having completed medical school in the Okanagan, I am thrilled to be moving to a beautiful new part of this province! I love any and all outdoor activities—skiing in particular (both cross-country and downhill)—as well as enjoying good food and drink with friends, of which I am sure I will make many new ones during this next exciting adventure.”

Hind Alhalyan

Medical School: Dubai Medical College

A bite-sized orthopaedic surgery resident from the beautiful city next to Dubai with a preference for specifically the left innominate bone… I grew up in Sharjah and then went to medical school in Dubai. Now, I am excited to start the third part of my adventure in Vancouver, BC!

Sunawer Aujla

Medical School: University of Calgary

I am originally from Calgary and completed a BSc in Human Biology at Michigan State University before returning home for medical school. I enjoy recreational sports, spending time outdoors, and working on creative projects. I’m excited to be moving to Vancouver for residency!

Yasmine Balan

Medical School: University of Ottawa

I’m thrilled to be joining the UBC Department of Orthopaedics! I’m honoured to serve BC patients while pursuing my dream of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon and broadening my horizons.

Taewoong (Peter) Chae

Medical School: University of British Columbia

“I studied at UBC for undergrad and medical school. Excited to spend another five years in Vancouver!”

Amanda Hadwen

Medical School: McMaster University

I’m from a tight-knit family of four in Ottawa, Ontario and did medical school at McMaster before coming to Vancouver. I’m excited to get started with UBC Ortho and continue learning from amazing staff and allied health members over the next five years. Outside of the hospital, I love sports and climbing, and can’t wait to explore more of BC.
