UBC Professor Dr. Bob McCormack Receives the Canadian Football League Bob Ackles Award

We are proud to announce that Dr. Bob McCormack, UBC Department of Orthopaedics Professor, has been presented the CFL Bob Ackles Award.

The Bob Ackles Lifetime Achievement Award honours an individual who has been a trailblazer in advancing the sport of football in BC, and whose impact on the sport leaves a legacy that will be felt for generations. As the current head physician of the BC Lions, as well as Chief Medical Officer of the Canadian Football League alongside Dr. Dhiren Naidu, Dr. McCormack has dedicated over 20 years to involvement in the sports medicine community.

He has also been involved on the international stage with the Canadian Olympic Medical Team for ten years, with six as its Chief Medical Officer. Over several decades in his career as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty interest in articular cartilage regeneration and ligament reconstruction, Dr. McCormack has served the sports community from the university level to the international level. He also engages in research as the Director of the Simon Fraser University Orthopaedic Research Foundation.
