Dr. Michael Neufeld Honoured with 2024 John Charnley Award by The Hip Society

We are proud to share that UBC Orthopaedics Clinical Instructor, Dr. Michael Neufeld, along with a distinguished team of co-authors, has been bestowed with the prestigious 2024 John Charnley Award by The Hip Society. This award celebrates their groundbreaking paper titled “The Impact of HLA Genotype on Bacterial Infection Rates and Successful Eradication in Total Hip Arthroplasty”.

The 2024 Award was given to:

  • Michael Neufeld, Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedics
  • Gerard Sheridan, Previous Clinical Fellow in the Department of Orthopaedics
  • Tanya MacDonell, Current Resident in the Department of Orthopaedics
  • Lisa Howard, Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics
  • Bassam Masri, Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics
  • Paul Keown, Professor in the Department of Medicine (Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine)
  • Karen Sherwood, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Scientist; Scientific Lead for the Genome Canada Transplant Consortium
  • Donald Garbuz, Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics

The John Charnley Award is given annually by The Hip Society to a paper based on innovative research, either clinical or basic, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders.
