Karen Jiang Awarded the 2024 UBC Orthopaedics Undergraduate Research Scholarship for Indigenous and Underrepresented Students!

We are pleased to share that Karen Jiang, a current UBC MD student, has been awarded the 2024 UBC Orthopaedics Undergraduate Research Scholarship for Indigenous and Underrepresented Students!

“This scholarship supports our project which aims to evaluate the Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) ultrasound screening program on Vancouver Island over the past 20 years. This is an opportunity to perform community-based research, synthesizing valuable regional data that can provide guidance and inform provincial guidelines for standardized screening protocols. Recognizing and treating DDH early will help prevent long-term debilitating complications at all stages of life.

I am incredibly grateful to UBC Orthopedics for this honor and opportunity. I am excited to explore the field of pediatric orthopedics and hope to make a meaningful contribution in the management of this important and common condition.

– Karen Jiang
