Dr. Dea steps into this prestigious role following the exceptional tenure of Dr. Charles Fisher, who led the Division for an impressive ten years. Dr. Fisher expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead such a remarkable team, commenting on the Division’s significant contributions to “clinical research in spine oncology, trauma, and degenerative conditions, as well as its pivotal role in global spinal cord injury research.” One of the Division’s proudest accomplishments during Dr. Fisher’s tenure has been the establishment of the Rapid Access Spine Clinic. “This innovative program has significantly reduced patient wait times and transformed the way spinal conditions are triaged” says Dr. Fisher. By streamlining the referral process, the clinic has reduced routine spine referral wait times from a staggering 24 months to just four weeks, providing patients with more timely access to the care they need. This pioneering initiative exemplifies the Division’s commitment to improving patient outcomes and demonstrates their dedication to innovative approaches in healthcare.

Dr. Nicolas Dea expresses his enthusiasm for assuming the role of the Head of the Spine Division. “I commend Dr. Fisher for his outstanding leadership over the past decade and acknowledge the challenges of filling his shoes.” Dr. Dea is committed to ensuring that the Division maintains its clinical and academic prowess at local, national, and international levels. “Recognizing the pivotal moment at which the Division finds itself, I embrace the upcoming challenges and will work to ensure that our Division continues to shine clinically and academically” says Dr. Dea.
