Dr. Brian Kwon receives UBC’s premier award for research: The Jacob Biely Faculty Research Prize
Dr. Brian Kwon has been awarded the prestigious Jacob Biely Faculty Research Prize in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a surgeon-scientist to advancements in spinal cord injury (SCI) research. Dr. Kwon is the first recipient of this award from the Department of Orthopaedics and the seventh from the Faculty of Medicine.

UBC orthopaedic surgeon–engineer research team awarded Arthritis Society Ignite Innovation Grant for pioneering knee health research
The collaborative orthopaedic research team, comprising engineer Dr. David Wilson, orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Parth Lodhia, and biophysicist Dr. Jordan Broberg, has been awarded an Arthritis Society Canada Ignite Innovation Grant to develop advanced MRI scanning techniques aimed at protecting knees from osteoarthritis.

Dr. Babak Shadgan leads study exploring blood flow restriction training for strength building in people with spinal cord injury
A study led by Dr. Babak Shadgan at Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute explored how blood flow restriction (BFR) exercise can help individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) build muscle strength using lighter weights. The method, commonly used by athletes, was tested on 10 SCI participants over an eight-week period.
