We are delighted to share that Dr. Joshua Giles has been awarded the Innovation Ignite Grant from Arthritis Society Canada for his research on personalized surgical planning for shoulder arthroplasty.
The Ignite Innovation Grant supports transformative research and novel approaches to tackling barriers in arthritis research and care. Funded Ignite Innovation projects embrace high-risk ideas with a strong potential for high rewards.
In their pioneering project, Developing the Next Generation of Surgical Planning Technology to Personalize Shoulder Arthroplasty Treatment, Dr. Giles and his team are developing a revolutionary computational tool to help surgeons predict how shoulder muscles will function after reverse shoulder replacement surgery.
This advanced system integrates biomechanics, computer algorithms, and medical imaging to create patient-specific surgical plans to optimize post-surgical outcomes. By enabling a personalized approach to pre-operative planning, this research has the potential to transform how shoulder replacements are performed, improving mobility and quality of life for individuals with severe arthritis-related muscle damage.
This project is part of Arthritis Society Canada’s commitment to funding cutting-edge research that advances the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of arthritis.
