We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Anthony Cooper, Clinical Associate Professor at UBC Orthopaedics and Pediatric Orthopaedic surgeon at BC Children’s Hospital, on receiving the 2022 Pediatric Orthopaedic Society Of North America (POSNA) Registry Grant research award for the International Limb Differences Registry.
The POSNA Registry Grant provides three years of funding for high-quality, multicenter clinical registries in pediatric orthopaedics that can have a profound effect on care and represents POSNA’s commitment to registries.
Limb Differences
Limb differences can be present at birth or may be acquired as a result of trauma, infection, tumours and other medical conditions. Because these conditions are rare, surgeons only see a few of these cases in their practice. Collecting enough data from across the world is needed to perform research studies.
The International Limb Differences Registry project will be the largest and first truly global study of children with limb differences. The number of hospitals and countries involved will allow for a better understanding on how to best treat and improve the lives of children with lower limb differences worldwide.
Dr. Anthony Cooper
Dr. Cooper is the Head of the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics at UBC and specializes in limb lengthening and reconstruction. He is passionate about improving the care of children with musculoskeletal problems locally and globally through research, education and advocacy. He is an orthopaedic innovator who established the International Limb Differences Network, a global network of orthopaedic surgeons, researchers and allied healthcare professionals with a common goal to improve the health-related quality of life of patients with limb differences.
He is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC Orthopaedics and holds a Clinical Investigator Award from the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. He integrates research and innovation into his clinical program to improve health-related quality of life. Dr. Cooper is the Director of the Canadian Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma Course and is currently completing a Global Executive MBA in Healthcare and Life Sciences at the Rotman School of Management.
