Our Featured Initiatives

Hip Hope Network
The Hip Hope Network is a collaborative group of hip health professionals dedicated to advancing research and knowledge-sharing for pediatric hip conditions globally. They aim to provide protocols for screening, diagnosing, and treating children with various hip conditions, welcoming clinicians, surgeons, researchers, nurses, and advocates to join their efforts.
Spinal Cord Injury Nepal
Spinal Cord Injury Nepal (SpiNepal) is a group of active or retired healthcare specialists from Vancouver, Canada, who have expertise in caring for individuals with spinal cord injuries, are collaborating with colleagues in Nepal to share their knowledge and skills. Their objective is to establish international standards of spinal care at the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) in Nepal, create a sustainable care system, and develop SIRC as a central hub for spinal care in Nepal, with goals including training Nepalese specialists and enhancing SIRC’s capacity.

Sustainable Ponseti Clubfoot Care
Each year, 200,000 children are born with clubfeet—painful and disabling unless corrected. Most live in low-resource countries. Dr. Pirani, an early advocate of the Ponseti method, led the CIDA-funded Uganda Sustainable Clubfoot Care Project to train local providers. He later led a similar program in Bangladesh. Today, the focus is on assisting geographies elsewhere with artificial intelligence powered Ponseti Clubfoot Navigator, a digital health app to help practitioners provide quality treatment with real time clinical decision support.
Uganda Sustainable Trauma Orthopaedic Program
In 2007, orthopaedic surgeons Drs. Peter O’Brien, Piotr Blachut, and Trevor Stone from UBC Department of Orthopaedics initiated an investigation into traumatic injuries in Uganda. This led to the establishment of the Uganda Sustainable Trauma Orthopaedic Program (USTOP) in partnership with Makerere University, aiming to address the impact of traumatic injuries by improving education and care for those affected at Mulago Hospital, a vital orthopaedic training center in East Africa.
