Adult Reconstruction, Hip and Knee Fellowship

1 year (July 1 – June 30 with one August 1 – July 31 position)

Salary & Benefits: $60,000 + Benefits (if applicable) + Stipend for attendance at the Current Concepts in Joint Replacement (CCJR) Conference or another appropriate conference/course

About:

The fellowship experience will include every aspect of elective adult hip and knee reconstruction in a busy tertiary care center which attracts a large volume of complex problems, especially failed joint replacement with severe bone loss. Fellows will operate in two hospitals, Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and UBC Hospital (UBCH), as well as within a clinic setting at the Diamond Health Care Center at VGH. Fellows will have the opportunity to work hands on with several mentors during their training to obtain a diverse experience.

Requirements:

Fellows are expected to be active in research and should come prepared with ideas for publications. Involvement in research, with presentation and publication, will be mandatory. Fellows will be required to participate in resident teaching activities inside and out of the operating room including education rounds. Fellow arthroplasty call runs for a week at a time and will be shared equally totaling approximately 1 in 4 weeks.

Goals & Objectives:

This clinical fellowship position is designed to give the applicant enhanced clinical expertise in the following areas:

  • High volume surgical experience in simple and complex primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
  • Active participation in research with publication.
  • Active participation in resident teaching

The VGH/UBCH arthroplasty group is recognized internationally for its clinical, educational and research excellence. We are the provincial centre for complex arthroplasty and provide a diverse experience for complex cases. We train a high number of fellows annually and provide high-volume surgical experience.
