Congratulations to Dr. Kelly Lefaivre, who has been appointed a Fellow of the International Orthopaedic Trauma Association by the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA).
OTA is the premier association of orthopaedic surgeons and related specialists in North America, bringing together academic and clinical leaders in orthopaedic trauma to advance its mission of improving patient care for musculoskeletal injuries.
A major OTA initiative is the International Orthopaedic Trauma Association (IOTA), which unites orthopaedic trauma associations in more than 30 countries. IOTA’s mission is to enhance international collaboration in research, education, teaching, and program development, and to support the development of Orthopaedic Trauma organizations globally. OTA was officially established in 1984; IOTA was ratified at the OTA triennial meeting in Vancouver in 2017.
To be recognized as a Fellow of IOTA is an honourary acknowledgement of a member’s outstanding professional contributions to orthopaedic trauma education and research and high achievement in the field. Every three years, each of the 30 international OTA societies may nominate up to 1% of its membership to become Fellows of IOTA. Dr. Lefaivre was inducted as a Fellow at the second triennial IOTA meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico.
“Being appointed a Fellow of IOTA is a huge honour, and one that reinforces my dedication to the Orthopaedic Trauma Association,” said Dr. Lefaivre. “I was excited to travel to join my international colleagues, and I look forward to continuing to support IOTA throughout my career.”
Dr. Lefaivre has been a member-at-large on the OTA Board of Directors since 2022, and participated in the development of OTA’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan.
Dr. Lefaivre is an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at UBC, and an orthopaedic trauma surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital. Her clinical interests include care of the injured patient and the reconstruction of post-traumatic conditions and deformity.
