Dr. Babak Shadgan promoted to Fellow rank of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE)

We are pleased to share that UBC Orthopaedics Assistant Professor, Dr. Babak Shadgan, has been promoted to the Fellow rank of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) as of January 2021. This is the highest academic rank offered to a limited number of Senior members of the society. SPIE Fellows are members of distinction who have made significant scientific and technical contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics, and imaging. Dr. Shadgan is distinguished by his scientific activities in design and development of advanced wearable and implantable optical sensors. Since 1955, after Professor Zheng Liu, Dr. Shadgan is the second UBC faculty member to be promoted to SPIE Fellow rank. He is the first SPIE Fellow in UBC Faculty of Medicine.
