Would you like to help us? We are always grateful for any monetary support which will help further our goal to foster and maintain collaborative research and training in the orthopaedic field. If you are interested in assisting us in this way, perhaps it would help if you knew more about the projects supported by the UBC Department of Orthopaedics.

Currently, we are proud to play an integral role in the development and establishment of two next-generation, internationally renowned centres: The Centre for Hip Health, a musculoskeletal research centre, and the ICORD (International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries) International Research Centre. Both of these centres will be based at the Vancouver Acute site and were founded by the combined efforts of the Canadian government, the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Coastal Health, the Rick Hansen Man In Motion Foundation and the Vancouver Acute Foundation.

The Centre for Hip Health, made up of three research centres, will be the first international research centre to focus on the human hip – from primary preventative measures in childhood through to intervention programs for elderly individuals who are most at risk.

The ICORD facility will bring multidisciplinary researchers together under one roof where they can work closely with each other on spinal cord injuries. This will accelerate the discovery, development and validation of therapies and practices to promote full functional recovery and improved quality of life after spinal cord injury.

General donations to the Department of Orthopaedics will be directed to support the vision and mission of these centres. In addition, each of the Divisions within the Department maintains an active research program. If you would like a donation directed specifically to a Division or to other areas of research, equipment or education, or if you would like to discuss an endowment or estate planning with the Department, please contact Bethany Saunders, Interim Department Administrator, at
