Goals and characteristics

The Royal Columbian Hospital is a level 1 trauma hospital and regional referral centre for over 1.6 million people in the Fraser Valley. It is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of British Columbia.

The Upper Extremity Reconstruction and Trauma Fellowship will offer candidates a high volume of clinical exposure to all aspects of upper extremity surgery.  A preceptor based, combined elective and trauma practice provides experience in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand fracture care, post-traumatic reconstruction, arthroscopy and arthroplasty.  Clinical expertise will be gained through patient assessment and management in both trauma clinics and elective offices.

The fellowship is one year in length. The fellow is expected to provide call coverage when either of the two preceptors are covering call.

Academic responsibilities include participation in weekly trauma rounds, resident seminars, and teaching of both resident and undergraduate medical students. The fellow will participate in department research activities and complete one research project during the year with the expectation of publication and presentation.

The Fellow is required to have completed an accredited orthopaedic surgery residency program and at this time, we can only accept candidates who have a Canadian license.
